Research Training:

Doctoral Research in Phylogenetics and Developmental Biology. Dissertation is a study of phylogenetic and systematics, and developmental studies in selected red algae, with a focus on species from the Gulf of Mexico. This investigation utilized light microscopy and molecular sequence data to determine the true biodiversity of the red algal genera Caloglossa and Peyssonnelia from the Gulf of Mexico. In addition, a microinjection study was conducted to determine if direct cell to cell communication occurs through pit connections.

Masters Research in Plant Systematics, specializing in bryophyte taxonomy. Thesis work was a revision of the Genus Fossombronia Raddi in north and east Asia, Oceania, the Malay Archipelago, and New Zealand. This study was a morphological and anatomical investigation of the taxa originally described from the study region based on both light and scanning electron microscopy to test and determine their species concepts and biodiversity.
